Advocis Challenges Canadians to Take Charge of Their Finances

Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, has announced its Financial Literacy Month initiatives for 2019, centered on an interactive 30-Day Challenge, and a special financial literacy podcast episode.

A consumer-friendly website, FinancialAdviceForAll.com, highlights the main theme of Financial Literacy Month, Take Charge of Your Finances, and four weekly subthemes: (1) Start a Budget, (2) Set Financial Goals, (3) Be a Smart Financial Consumer, and (4) Borrow Money Wisely.

To support everyday action on financial literacy, Advocis is excited to introduce a 30-Day Challenge for the public to take concrete steps toward transforming their finances. Participants will be asked to complete seven simple tasks and are invited to post their results online.

Advocis is also releasing a special financial literacy podcast episode featuring Cindy Marques, a Certified Financial Planner and Financial Literacy Advocate, and Laurie Martin, a Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist and Elder Planning Counselor. The episode tackles the financial challenges millennials face; the changing meaning of retirement; the psychological pressures that can affect a financial plan; and the differences between tracking your spending and having a budget.

“More and more, we are hearing from people across all age groups and backgrounds about the need for programs targeting financial literacy,” said Greg Pollock, President and CEO, Advocis.

“Advocis is again supporting Financial Literacy Month this year with a set of initiatives designed to help Canadians take charge of their finances. Fully supported by our 13,000 members in 40 chapters across the country, we are extending a challenge to the public to do the little things this month that can make a big difference in their overall financial health.”
